May – September 2023

he 100 year old grandstand at Christchurch’s Riccarton Park Racecourse was demolished after damage from the 2011 earthquakes. The GNS Stand had significant heritage value and required demolition consent from CCC prior to demolition, SDSL provided full Demolition Management Plan that included confirmed methodology. SDSL are engaged to undertake Asbestos Removal, Demolition of Structure to
slab level and crush all concrete material on site for reuse.

Key requirements of the project were to allow Canterbury Jockey Club to maintain normal racing and training schedule throughout the project we are achieving this by:
• Managing work hours around morning training times and using an approved methodology to reduce nosie during the demolition project.
• Maintaining strick dust control using Boix water cannons and high reach HPW Dust suppression due to proximity of neighbors.
• Salvage heritage items prior to demolition to meet requirements of Consent.
