Southern Demolition & Salvage prioritises Health and Safety. We are committed to all staff going home safely at the end of everyday as well as subcontractors and visitors to site. Southern Demolition Proactively support staff with any challenges they may face, be that mentally or physically.

We maintain a comprehensive, current Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) aligned with ISO 45001:2018. For the past 5 years Southern Demolition has achieved SiteWise Gold and Totika Category 3 ‘performing’ prequalification status.

We throughly document our Incident Reporting and Investigation Procedure as part of the OHSMS. All incidents, near misses, and hazards are reported immediately via Site App Pro (on-site) or directly to Management.  Every event is recorded in the Incident Injury Register, capturing: date, time, location, persons involved, description, immediate actions taken, and initial risk classification.

Southern Demolition & Salvage maintains regular training of all staff. Training needs are identified proactively, and refresher training is scheduled before certifications lapse. All workers hold a current Site Safe Passport as a minimum foundation requirement.

Regular inspections of all plant/equipment and sites. Inspection findings are documented, corrective actions are assigned to responsible persons with due dates, and outcomes are reviewed monthly.

Southern Demolition & Salvage identifies and manages high-risk and notifiable work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and associated regulations.

Staff Health is paramount for our operations, We conduct an annual health monitoring programme for all workers, recognising the occupational health risks inherent in demolition work (noise, dust/silica, eye injury, physical strain).  Monitoring is conducted by professional consultants and includes: Hearing tests (audiometry), Vision tests (eyesight assessment), Lung function tests (spirometry), Blood pressure checks. Additional to the physical health checks, Southern Demolition has invested in dust-monitoring equipment to measure crystalline silica exposure levels at relevant sites, in response to the revised WorkSafe NZ standard.
